At St Francis, we pride ourselves on providing a nurturing and child lead learning environment, which is also safe, secure and stimulating. The emotional, social and physical wellbeing of all the children in our care is our primary concern and we ensure equality of opportunity for all children. We promote self-respect and a respectful, caring attitude towards our environment and others.
I have learnt over the years that children have an insight into the world around them that as adults we can not fully appreciate or have the luxury to indulge in. Children have the innate ability to capture moments in time that still fill me with awe and wonder and being invited into their world where I get to observe and share those moments is something I never take for granted. Each experience is unique and shapes who they are as individuals in their own right and enables them to learn and develop in a way that fully embraces their idiosyncrasies. Children have a fundamental right to have a space where they are encouraged and inspired to explore their autonomy and express themselves with confidence and tenacity.
Therefore, at St Francis we understand the importance in providing a learning and social environment where we consider the emotional wellbeing of each individual child pivotal to the learning process but nonetheless, remains fun, engaging and continually considers the current milestones within the Birth to 5 matters alongside the Early Years Statutory Framework. Furthermore, for children to be fully open to all the experiences within an early years setting they have the right to be supported by educators that consider their role to be reciprocal between themselves and the children they care for. We can not fully begin to appreciate or offer the appropriate level of support if we do not fully embrace all the ways a child communicates and truly 'tune in' to and respond appropriately to their needs.
Children have the right to have their wishes heard and acted upon alongside experienced and 'tuned in' educators. Furthermore, despite the challenges children may face, part of our role is to support the belief that they have the profound ability to influence and contribute effectively to the world around them.
Each child is an individual in terms of his/her needs and learning journey and we strive to promote a learning and social environment that reflects the characteristics and personalities of the children who attend our setting. We have high expectations of the adults who will care for your child and ensure that each child can work towards achieving their best possible outcomes in partnership with parents.
We assess progress and plan activities to support each child, in doing this, our aim is to ensure that your child's experiences of their earliest education are positive, fun and will prepare them for the next part of their learning journey.
We pride ourselves in offering an environment that is based on the fundamentals of play and how pivotal a 'hands-on', reciprocal approach to leaning can support children in developing essential social and emotional skills. Skills that take the pressure off challenges they may face in more formal learning environments and continuing to break down barriers to accessing their right to enriching and fulfilling educational experiences. Developing key skill such as 'turn taking', sharing and conflict resolution between peers, enables all children to navigate the complexities they face within their social and learning environments.
